Van Mahotsav Essay in Hindi

Introduction – Forests, those inexhaustible reservoirs of natural beauty, share an unbreakable bond with human life. Since ancient times, forests have been sources of human well-being and resources. Forests, which supported the protection and sustenance of early civilizations, continue to coexist with human life even in the modern scientific era.
In forests, the earth and trees are draped in a mantle of greenery. The melodious chirping of diverse birds delights the mind and soul. Wildlife and animals dwell in the lap of the forest, living lives filled with fearlessness and joy. India’s civilization and culture were also born in the lap of the forest; here, seated in the dense shade of trees, sages and enlightened beings imparted priceless gems of knowledge.
Utility of Forests: Forests should not be viewed merely as repositories of trees, plants, and vegetation; they can be described as invaluable instruments for the development of civilization. Their utility is evident in many forms. The Vedic era contains descriptions of forest deities and mentions forest celebrations and festivals. In modern times, the concept of ‘Van Mahotsav’ signifies tree plantation. India is an agrarian country, and its agriculture relies heavily on favorable rainfall—and it is forests that bring about abundant rainfall. Thus, the utility of forests is self-evident from this perspective.
Trees are regarded as providers of shelter not only in our country but across the globe. In Indian culture, forests hold even greater significance; here, trees are even worshipped. Humans share a deep bond with them Van Mahotsav Essay in Hindi —
“Trees offer refuge and bear fruit throughout the year;
With cool shade and abundant fruit, birds frolic amidst them.”
Furthermore, the tradition of worshipping trees and plants like the Peepal, Banyan, Amla, Banana, and Tulsi is widely known. Scholars have accorded trees the status of friends, helpers, and teachers. In July 1950, the then Food Minister, Shri Kanhaiyalal Maniklal Munshi, inaugurated the ‘Van Mahotsav’ (Forest Festival). Consequently, this initiative evolved into a movement, and tree-planting drives began to be held every July. Certain slogans also gained popularity in this context—
“Trees are the ornaments of the earth; they dispel pollution.”
“The barren earth cries out: fewer children, a thousand trees.”
The Destruction of Forests: A Detrimental Act—Intoxicated by modern comforts and luxuries, humans have engaged in the destruction of forests by felling trees. This is a harmful act and bodes ill for humanity and the animal kingdom, for the very life of a tree is dedicated to the welfare of others—”Trees bear fruit for the benefit of others.Van Mahotsav Essay in Hindi ” The First Five-Year Plan set a target to plant 300 million new trees and protect existing ones. Therefore, forest conservation is a pressing issue today; to address it, every citizen must pledge to plant new saplings and protect forest wealth.
Forest Development: A Call of the Times—Alongside conservation, the development of forests is a call of the current materialistic era. In this context, the *Van Mahotsav* (Forest Festival) proves to be a boon. It offers us two types of benefits: spiritual and material. According to ancient beliefs, a person who plants five trees during their lifetime attains heaven. From a material perspective, trees provide us with life-sustaining oxygen, and we also derive fruits, flowers, gum, rubber, and essential medicines from them.
With the spread of education, public awareness regarding *Van Mahotsav* is growing. The government is making efforts in this direction, and this trend is taking root in the lives of the people. Participating in *Van Mahotsav* is a sacred duty for every individual and a propitious step for the welfare of humanity.
The felling of trees should be viewed as a curse. Lush greenery should be visible in every open space, and colorful flowers should captivate the mind in every garden. Only when cuckoos sing melodiously from the trees and birds chirp joyfully will the country continue to advance on the path of progress. Therefore, emphasizing tree plantation is synonymous with promoting the well-being of all humanity.
